      NAMIBIA IN PERSPECTIVE: The History of SWAPO SWAPO as a movement emerged out of labour politics. Its three prominent founder members, Sam Nujoma, Toivo ya Toivo and Jackob Kuhanga had strong labor background which motivated them to launch the first Namibian trade union that became known as the Owamboland People's Organization. Nation-building is therefore the product of conscious statecraft, not happenstance. Nation-building is always a work-in-progress; a dynamic process in constant need of nurturing and re-invention.
